Let's correct this old folk tale:
You Don't Need Pain, To Gain!
Unity Volleyball Club focuses on player development and success, but more importantly we are about the safety, health, and well-being of our athletes.
We don't just talk about it like other programs, we are truly doing it. Just by being a UVC player, each athlete will receive the GOLD standard in concussion baseline assessments.
Our professional overseeing the baseline assessment is a doctor and Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC) specializing in concussion and balance disorders.
Why a concussion program?
The amount of concussions in all high school sports is rising 15% annually. Studies show between 2 to 3 million sports and recreation related concussions happen each year. Volleyball concussions tend to happen when players are diving for a ball or making contact with other players when digging or passing.
What we offer:
- Neurocognitive – ImPACT testing assesses for memory, attention span, visual and verbal problem solving.
- Neuro-physical – Biodex balance testing known as m-CTSIB (modified clinical test of sensory integration of balance) and BESS (balance error scoring system) measures postural stability and sway index.
- The Vestibular Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) – looks at the systems responsible for integrating balance, vision and movement.
Why three assessments?
The athlete may appear asymptomatic and may pass a computerized cognitive test (ImPACT), however the lingering effects of balance and visual disturbances, would otherwise go undetected without a balance and Vestibular Ocular Motor assessment (Biodex and VOMS) .
